The Ridbaz [Rabbi Yaakov David Wilovsky] of blessed memory was very moved by the acquisition of land near holy sites, and when he came to Safed
when he traveled on the eve of Lag BaOmer 5665 [1905] from Safed to Meron in order to lodge in the village of Ein Zeitim
they showed him the grave of Rabbi Yehuda bar Ilai and he was very emotional that we had not acquired this place to establish
a study hall near it, as was done for his colleagues Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai in Meron and Rabbi Meir in Tiberias, in order to fulfill the teaching of
our Sages of blessed memory (Baba Kama 16b) “And they honored him in his death” – this teaches that they established a yeshiva at his grave. And later when
in the year 5672 [1912] when he settled in Ein Zeitim, the Ridbaz would go out every morning from his house and would regularly spend
several hours studying not far from his grave, many times together with his students who came to visit him…
